On January 2, 2025, I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer. I was 40 years old at the time and ready for another fun year as a professional HR leader, wife, and mom to two active boys, ages eight and eleven.
When I found out the news, I started an email to my coworker to take the day off. But, I couldn’t type the words “I have breast cancer.” It was extremely emotional.
I was able to quickly meet with a team of doctors and get a plan in motion. I received a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction in February and began chemotherapy in March.
Mental strength practices and breathwork have been a part of my life as a student athlete, birthing my children and in many situations of stress and anxiety. I learned from others in the breast cancer community that chemo can be the hardest, so I began searching for resources to support me during my chemo battle. I found LifeSpark and was matched after my first round of chemo – divine timing.
I met and connected with Kimberly instantly. We are both direct and open people and I was able to easily communicate with her. She could support what I needed after each chemo cycle. I walked in defeated and in what I called my chemo cloud, but left with new energy and vitality. I had to be open to receiving each session. Some days it would take almost an entire session to break through the fog and heaviness, but I would, and was able to leave in a much better place than when I arrived.
I would recommend Reiki to anyone in their cancer battle. It would also be helpful in so many different treatment areas. I continue to use the visualization practices I completed with Kimberly as I continue through my treatment plan and establish a new normal in my life.
I’ve now completed chemo and radiation, and I don’t know exactly what I have in front of me, but I know I have positive Reiki practice to support whatever lies ahead.
