Healing Touch helps toddler named Jack

By Sandy Priester.

If you are like me, you are interested in news coverage about our therapies. Unity Magazine recently featured an excellent Healing Touch article in their March/April issue. It features the work of one of our colleagues in San Diego, Rauni King, RN, CHTP/I, who received the 2022 Change Maker Award from the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine.

The article is written by the mother of Jack, and starts with this beautiful story.

“When Jack was 14 months old, he developed a congenital heart condition that resulted in medical emergencies, hospitalizations.  He was in tremendous pain and he was inconsolable. …

So I sat in the hospital recliner with Jack on my lap while a pediatric nurse named Lisa Thompson stood before us and began moving her hands a few inches above our bodies. Within minutes, Jack’s breathing slowed, beeping machines quieted, and I felt an overwhelming sense of release.

For the first time in 10 days, Jack and I took a collective breath, and before the 30-minute session was over, he was sleeping peacefully in my arms.”

Although LifeSpark does not serve children, our therapies often provide similar relief for the individuals with cancer that we serve.
